Finally something I didn’t see myself, but which I happened to come
across on the web. A proposed flag for Seskarö (Finnish: Seittenkaari).
Seskarö is an island with 500+ inhabitants in Haparanda municipality, the
the county of Norrbotten. The area belongs to the traditionally
Finnish-speaking border lands, and is part of the Tornedalian culture area
(FOTW already has their flag under the heading "Tornedalians").
The Seskarö flag is discussed (together with a sketch) at this web page:
http://www.vi-pr.se/seskbysmraflag.htm.
The text mentions the flag as a "proposal" and "prototype".
The symbolism is explained (in somewhat broken Swedish, actually) as
follows: yellow = sun, warmth, spring; blue = sea, sky, coolness; black =
autumn darkness; white = snow. The red tail part is literally "the blood of
all human struggle, such as work and ideological aspiration". In addition,
the relationship with the Swedish (blue+yellow) and Finnish (blue+white)
flags is mentioned, as is the fact that blue + yellow yields green, which
could symbolise the vegetation. The text then goes on to state that the
entire life is contained in the flag, since white could also symbolise
birth, while the black field could stand for death. "No other flag embodies
so much symbolism", the text concludes.
