Malmö Rederi A/B

[Malmö Rederi] image contributed by Neale Rosanoski, 2 November 2006

Operated 1946-1965 as a tanker company either being or becoming a subsidiary of Stockholms Rederi A/B Svea. The flag was a yellow swallowtail with a smallish canton of blue with a yellow cross, and on the field a red "M" as shown by the Collectors Corner cap badge and Brown 1958 [13]. US Navy 1961 [8] places the "M" lower and central but in view of the cap badge this would seem incorrect.

Maritime
[AB Maritime]

Ahrenberg, ship Aina - dark blue flag, white connected "AL". (probably for Ahrenberg Linie)
Jarig Bakker, 11 August 2005

Lloyds 1912 [1] shows the livery for Th. Ahrenberg and also for Werner Lunqvist, both of Gothenburg but with no indication of their relationship. However it is a possible indication for the letters. I suspect that Ahrenberg may have been operators for others, which would explain the connection with AB Maritime, using their colours in lieu of any for the ship's owner.

ship: S/S Monita, built 1945, Upphuggen 1963; flag: blue swallowtail with a yellow hoist triangle reaching flag center.
Jarig Bakker, 18 August 2005

More correctly they are the colours of Arnold de Champs who operated at least 3 companies including Rederi A/B Monark. Towards the end there seems to have been a succession with Lloyds showing the company as Thomas de Champs A/B ceasing operations around the mid 1970s.

Morgan Wedlin

[Morgan Wedlin] image contributed by Neale Rosanoski, 16 January 2007

Based Helsingborg the flag in US Navy 1961 [8] is blue with a broad white horizontal band bearing a blue "W" with the Collectors Corner cap badge showing a wider white band [see se~w199a.gif attached] though the letter at first glance seems to be a narrow red version. However even when zoomed the colour is not clear. I suspect that this is the Morgan Wedlin who lived 1883-1954 and they probably relate to Morgan Wedlin & Son A/B who appear to still operate as port agents. Shipowning appears to have ceased in the early 1960s.

Later livery
[Motala Rederi] image contributed by Neale Rosanoski, 8 June 2006

According to Loughran 1979 [2] the company started in 1896 under managers and in 1918 these were changed to E.A. Enhörning and after this a new livery was adopted of blue with narrow yellow horizontal bands near chief and base and between them a white circle bearing a red cross paty . This is actually shown by Brown 1929 [10] and 1934 [11] as being for E.A. Enhörning. Both companies are shown in Lloyds 1937 Telegraphic Addresses but as these are in their own names it is not clear whether they were still connected.
Neale Rosanoski, 8 June 2006

Lloyd's (1912) [1] shows for Motala a different owner and a slightly different house flag when compared with Brown's Flags and Funnels (1926) [9]. The owner is listed as C.A. Arvidson, Stockholm. The flag is a blue swallow-tailed flag with a white M.
