Rederi A/B Avena. Formed in 1874 by R.W. Thorburn it operated until 1912. The flag, as shown by Lloyds 1912 [1], was red with a white circle bearing a blue "A" with feet.

Axel Christensen

Domiciled in Trelleborgm  noted as operator for Rederi A/B Ostkusten which was formed c.1922. US Navy 1961 [8] shows a blue swallowtail with narrow white bands top and bottom and bearing a white 6 pointed star charged with a blue "C" listing it under the Otskusten name but from the letter it would appear to be more likely that it belonged to the operator and also applied to the other companies under his control. By the late 1950s, just prior to their disappearance from Lloyds, the companies involved are shown under the operation of A. Th. Christensen and Oscar Christensen both at the same address but just where they, and the flag, fit in is not clear as USN gives a different funnel, with no flag shown, for Oscar, who was the one ending up operating Rederi A/B Ostkusten according to Lloyds.

Axel Falkland

Traded out of Råå and also as Rederi A/B Wallen and Rederi A/B Wandia with both Collectors Corner and US Navy [8] showing under these latter names. The flag was blue with a broad gold band bearing a white triangle touching the blue top and bottom and charged with a blue "W", with the triangle being towards the hoist according to the cap badge whereas US Navy centres it.

Axel Frederik Andersson

(Rederi A/B Norrland and Rederi A/B Nord-Sverige)

Axel Frederik Andersson of Härnösand operated in the 1950's and early 1960's. For two of the companies which he operated, Rederi A/B Norrland and Rederi A/B Nord-Sverige, the Collectors Corner site shows the same flag from its cap badge i.e. white with a blue circle bearing a yellow "N". However he had a 3rd company, Dynas A/B, in the early days, plus ships in his own name and whether they used the same is not known.

A.R. Appelqvist A/B

Apparently this company transported coal.
Ole Andersen, 2000-Sep-18

A.R. Appelqvist A/B became Ara-bolagen A/B and then A/B Arafart before disappearing from Lloyds at the end of the 1970s. From the company cap badges it appears that the original flag may have been plain white with the black "ARA" emblem.

swallowtail version
[B&N Nordsjöfrakt] image by Jorge Candeias, 9 February 1999

B&N Nordsjöfrakt AB (Sweden) - Dark blue with horizontal yellow stripes running near the top and the bottom of the flag and the inscription "B&N" in the center, also in yellow.
Jorge Candeias, 9 February 1999

B&N Nordsjöfrakt AB has its offices in Skärhamn in Bohuslän and has its homepage at http://www.bn.se/. To judge from the homepage, it seems as if they use both square cut and swallow tailed versions of the house flag.
Elias Granqvist, 17 March 2001

B&N Nordsjöfrakt A/B seem to have several versions which presumably relate to the various companies making up the combine. The first version is confirmed by a flag from the Josef Nüsse site [5] which he associates with Sea Partner which would be Sea Partner Sweden A/B, a joint venture of B&N, Gorthon Lines A/B and Swedish Orient Line A/B. He also shows the second swallow tailed version but with a lighter mid shade of blue and white instead of yellow. Brown 1995 [4] shows another version, a white swallowtail with a very broad blue horizontal band bearing the white letters "B&N".

[A/B] Bellis

Taken from a cap badge in Collectors Corner it appears to relate to a firm, based Stockholm, who acted as agents around the latter 1960s for Hemisphere Steamship Corporation being a white tapered swallowtail with a blue border.

Per saltire blue and yellow; in center white disk with black "T". The "T" refers to Jarl Trapp - which makes it double canting.
Jarig Bakker, 6 August 2005

Though most sources support this version as a swallowtailed flag with the circle being ringed black is shown on a cap badge in Telia.com. .

Billners Rederi A/B

Brown, 1951 [12] and 1958 [13], do not show a white border in the hoist. Possibly sightings thought it was part of the sleeve.

Bilners Kolimport A/B

[Bilners Kolimport] image contributed by Neale Rosanoski, 16 January 2007

Operated 1920-1978 based Göteborg. Appears to have been involved in operating ships up to World War 2, colliers no doubt. The Collectors Corner website cap badge shows a blue swallowtailed flag edged white except at hoist and bearing the white letters "BK". At a guess, post World War 2 they moved into tanker shipping through Rederi Billners A/B with a similar style flag with both appearing to cease operations around the same time.
