Presentation of Juršinci

The municipality of Juršinci was formed in 1995 by separation from Ptuj. It is located about half way between Ptuj and Murska Sobota in Slovenske gorice (Slovenian Hills), a low hilly region between the rivers Drava and Mura.

Municipal flag of Juršinci

The flag and arms of Juršinci are prescribed by the Statutory Amendment Spremembe in dopolnitve statuta Občine Juršinci, adopted on 13 November 1998 and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 80/98, and in the new Decision Odlok o spremembah Odloka o uporabi grba, zastave in pečata Občine Juršinci, adopted on 26 March 2007 and published on 30 March 2007 in the local gazette Uradni vestnik Občine Juršinci, No. 2.

The Amendment says:

The flag is rectangular, 190 x 90 [cm], lengthwise bicolour, yellow over green, with the grapevine branch and the grill from the coat of arms near the hoist.

The Amendment says:

The coat of arms is in shield shape, in upper part showing a grapevine branch with green leaves and red grapes on a yellow field. In the lower part is a black grill below which are red and yellow flames all on a green field.

Stanič & Jakopič [j2s05] explain that Juršinci is located in the most famous Slovenian wine-producing region (around Ptuj); in Juršinci were already sold in 1905 grapeine stalks for new vineyards. The place was also known as Sveti Lovrenc v Slovenskih Goricah, and the grill and flames are reference to St. Lawrence (as in other Slovene coats of arms). The name Juršinci is just as old (Sveti Lovrenc, 14th century) and its German form was Georgendorf.
