Flag of Logatec

The flag of Logatec is prescribed by Decision Odlok o grbu in zastavi Občine Logatec, adopted on 20 June 2008 and published on 15 July 2008 in the local magazine Logaške novice - uradne objave, Nos. 07-08 (text).
Decision Odlok o spremembah in dopolnitvah odloka o grbu in zastavi Občine Logatec, adopted on 13 May 2010 and published in Logaške novice - Uradne objave, No. 4 (text) corrects the first Decision, adding the mention of the five leaves in the chief, omitted in the original.

The symbols were designed by Valt Jurečič.

The flag is in proportions 2:5, with a red square at the hoist containing the golden wheel from the coat of arms and the fly horizontally divided red-white-red.
Horizontal and vertical version of the flag are prescribed.

Coat of arms of Logatec

The coat of arms of Logatec is "Gules a wheel or and in chief embattled argent five linden leaves vert". This is the "heraldification" of the previous symbol, with the addition of the leaves and embattlements.

Logaške novice includes two short articles on the adoption of the new symbols:
- Valt F. Jurečič O vsebini grba;
- Nevenka Malavašič Predstavitev grba naše občine.
Jurečič explains that the design was developed from the previously used symbol, standing for transportation and merchant industry. The region where clashes of peoples often happened, he explains, was also the place of many battles, so red was chosen as the basic colour. Red also stands for love, especially love towards the homeland.

Logatec was one of the few municipalities in Slovenia still using their "socialist" emblems, certainly because the superseded political system ideology was not much visible in them as in some other cases.

The former flag of Logatec is in proportions 1:2, vertically hoisted, yellow with the black writing along the top OBČINA LOGATEC and in lower part the emblem from the municipal coat of arms set obliquely issuing from the right edge. I do not think that the flag was ever officially adopted.

Stanič & Jakopič [j2s05] show two versions of the flag - horizontal and vertical -, each having a slightly different stylization of the coat of arms.
The vertical version differs from the flag communicated by the municipal administration by the omission of the writing.

The former coat of arms of Logatec is gold with red charges, two wheels connected with a tilted square above a double line serrated in the middle. The original emblem adopted in the mid-1980s symbolizes the transportation and timber industries. The emblem originally designed by Nino Kovačevič (d. 1991) was later modified with the serrated line.

The aforementioned "illustrated" journal includes two short articles on the adoption of the new symbols:
- Valt F. Jurečič O vsebini grba;
- Nevenka Malavašič Predstavitev grba naše občine.
The second article says that the previous symbol was adopted by a decision on the 11th joint session of the Assembly of Associated Work, Assembly of Local Communities and the Assembly of Socio-Political Organizations (the three-cameral system of local assemblies was usual at the time) on 21 October 1987. In regard with info on original design of the symbol by Kovačevič and its subsequent amendment, I am not sure if the amendment was done prior to that adoption, after the original proposal, or if the modification was made at some point after 1987 - certainly the coat of arms in that shape was already in use in the early 1990s when the new registration plates were being adopted). In any case, I believe that only the coat of arms was adopted in 1987; the flag must have been designed some years later, and probably never formally adopted. I do not think that such flags have been used much before my original report on them in 2003.
