The arms of Nitra region with St. Ladislaus and Cumanian warrior (but
alas - still no flag there) is presented in full splendour. ) Newspaper
"Sme" from 14th May 2002 says that Nitra region flag has four fields
and blue, red and yellow coulours - nothing more.

Nitra (in Hungarian: Nyitra) region is using the Coat of Arms of the formerly
Hungarian county: Nyitra (in Slovakian: Nitra).
This Coat of Arms was the second variation from 1606, because the original seal
(given by King Ferdinand I in 1550) was lost.
The seal and the Coat of Arms was renewed by King Ferdinand V in 1838. The inscription
of the Coat of Arms was changed (from Latin to Hungarian). The Coat of Arms relates the holy
Hungarian king Saint Ladislaus - because he died in Nitra by the legends..
(In fact he died near the Czech-Hungarian border).
The Coat of Arms was in use 1550-1920.
You can see the picture of the Coat of Arms of Nyitra county on Ralf
Hartemink's site.

"Flag of the insurrectionists of Nyitra County, 1660, reconstruction.
On the obverse of the red flag with a forked tail - ornamented with tongues
of flame - the coat-of arms of Nyitra County - St. Ladislas fighting with
a Cumanian warrior - is displayed. The legend on it is `The Flag of Nyitra
County - Virtue and Concord'. On the reverse the crucified Jesus is portrayed
and there is the following legend: `IN HOC SIGNO VINCES (In this sign the
victory will be yours) - 1660'. According to the tradition the flag was
present at the siege of Buda in 1686. The basis of the reconstruction was
a drawing in the volume on Nyitra County from the series `Counties and
Towns of Hungary'."
