At the part of beautiful country of South Slovakia, where the waters
of down Hron and Ipel majestically flow between low banks, where the last
spurs of mountains connect to fertile flatlands, spreads the region of
Levice, The first writen notice about Levice comes from the year 1156,
about the castle from the year 1318. The rich history has got also a border-town
Sahy, which was formerly the seat of "zupa" of Hont. The first writen notice
about it dates in 1237. Until the territorial reorganisation in 1960 the
town of Sahy has been the seat of the region. The same status has had the
town of Zeliezovce. In 1960 all the three regions were connected to one,
but Zeliezovce still has been an important economical and cultural centre
of the South part of region. Formerly it was the seat of the family Esterhazy.
An original part of history of region of Levice have always been the traditional
markets. The first notices about them we can find in 14th century, from
17th century the markets have been organized regularly. The market of Levice
has been held in the season of vintage, in October. As from the historical
view the special place belongs to the town Pukanec. Until the end of 19th
century Pukanec was a free royal-mine town. The Levice region is rich in
culture monuments witnessing to the hundreds of years old history of this
area.

Levice (Léva in Hungarian) use the yellow-green colours which were the
colours of the Esterházy Family, because the family had managed the town
in the past.
