Dechtice is a village on the foot of Small Carpathians, already settled
in the Neo Lithic Age. The first written record dates back to 1258. During
its rich history, it was destroyed by the Turks in 1663. In 1863 it was
destroyed again by fire. The locals were involved in agriculture, mainly
viniculture. Since the 16th century the village had the most beautiful
vineyards of the domain. Later pottery flourished - the Habans produced
here until World War I the known Habanian pottery. Close to Dechtice, the
ruins of a monastery and the church of St Catherine are located. Count
Erdödy established here in 1618 a Franciscan monastery. On the road from
Dechtice to Dobra Voda, once a paper mill was located (1771 - 85).
