    Background

South Sudan is divided into ten states which correspond to the three historical regions of Sudan, namely Bahr el Ghazal, Equatoria and Great Upper Nile.  These historical regions are now sub-divided into the following states:

    Bahr el Ghazal - Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Western Bahr el Ghazal, Lakes State and Warrap;
Equatoria - Eastern Equatoria, Central Equatoria and Western Equatoria; and
Greater Upper Nile - Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile.

    Bieh State

Image sent by Valentin Poposki, 10 Sept 2019

The above photo shows a flag for Bieh State, which is divided into three vertical stripes of white, black and white.  The white stripe at the hoist is thinner (if included as part of the flag) than the other two stripes which are the same size. Various emblems of the State deface the latter two stripes and the name of the State is emblazoned across the top.

    Central Equatoria State

Image sent  by Vanja Poposki, 01 Jan 2012

Central Equatoria is the smallest of the ten states which make up South Sudan.  According to Wikipedia, it was formerly named Bahr al Jaba after a tributary of the the White Nile that flows through the state.  It was re-named Central Equatoria on 01 April 2005.  Juba, the capital city of South Sudan, is also the state capital of Central Equatoria.

After some searching, I'm sure that Central Equatoria state has changed its flag.  The new flag is green with white circle with state emblem, a rhinoceros, within and words "CENTRAL EQUATORIA  above the emblem and STATE below. Photographs  show the rhino facing left, while in others it faces right with no lettering.

Previously the state flag had the state emblem in the centre of a white background.

    Eastern Equatoria State

Image by Zoltan Horvath, 29 Dec 2011

The flag of Eastern Equatoria state comprises four horizontal stripes of yellow, black and red with the state emblem or logo in the centre.  The yellow symbolises the state's rich mineral resources, while black represents the African inhabitants and red symbolises the bloodshed during the liberation struggle.  The green within the central oval emblem represents vegetation and agriculture.  The cheetah, described as "gently moving" symbolises the rate of development and the nature of the people of Eastern Equatoria who are always organised and quick to respond - taken from this source.

The previous flag of Eastern Equatoria can be seen in a photograph accompanying this article here.

    Sobat State

Image by Valentin Poposki, 10 Sept 2019

The flag of Sobat State comprises three horizontal stripes of light blue, fimbriated by a thin white stripe and light green.  In the centre is the State emblem in the form of an African shield in yellow, superimposed on two crossed black spears in salitre.
    Valentin Poposki, 10 Sept 2019

Sobat is one of "rebel" states formed in 2014, which continues to function. South Sudan is in a state of chaos and different parts of the country have formed separate administrations.   "On 22 December 2014, rebel leader and former vice president, Riek Machar, declared the 10 states of South Sudan had dissolved and announced the formation of 21 new states in a federal system. This declaration was not recognised by the central South Sudanese government. The Sudan Tribune reported on 01 January 2015 that Machar had appointed "military governors" for several of his declared states." (Source: Wikipedia). On the same page is a map of 21 states, and one of them is Sobat (between Adar, Fashoda and Bieh).

    Twic State

Images by Jens Pattke, 13 Mar 2019

I have discovered a number of variant designs of the flag of Twic State.  The latest version, from April 2017, shows a Pelican (sometimes in flight) in the centre of a flag with a green field.

On 07 April 2017, the Governor of Twic State, Hon. Kon Manyiel Kuol has officially, a new state flag featuring a Great White Pelican and laid the foundation stone for the State Secretariat General in Mayen Abun. The inauguration ceremony was witnessed by the Speaker of Twic State Legislative Assembly Hon. Mangok Kom Nyuol and citizens. Kuol called on the citizens of Twic Mayardit to unite and work together for the development of new state.  In 2016, parliament passed the new logo in a secession chaired by the Speaker of Twic State Legislative Assembly (Source: Twic State Governor's Press Unit).

Previous versions of the State flag, used until April 2017, showed the state emblem in the centre of a white over green horizontal bi-colour with a blue triangle at the hoist.  Within the triangle were five 5-pointed white stars (See images here and here).
