The party

The Front Populaire (الجبهة الشعبية - People's Front) was established on 7 October 2012 as a coalition of 23 leftist parties of different orientation (Marxist-Leninist, Marxist Panarab, Ba'athist Arab Nationalist, Nasserist Arab Nationalist, Socialist...). Two of its leaders, Chokri Belaïd and Mohamed Brahmi, were murdered on 6 February and 25 July 2013, respectively, which caused the fall of the respective governments led by the Islamic party Ennahdha.

In the 2014 presidential election, Hamma Hammami was the third most voted candidate (255,529 votes; 7.8%). In the general election that followed, the Front Populaire was the fourth most voted party (124,654 votes; 3.7%), securing 15 seats (out of 217) at the Assembly of the Representatives of Tunisia.
The coalition split in 2019. On 22 July 2019, Safa Dhaouadi registered a new party under the name of Front Populaire. The former coalition was renamed to Front. In the presidential election held the same year, Mongi Rahoui, candidate for the Front Populaire, was the 13th most voted candidate (27,346 votes; 0.8%). In the general election that followed, the Front Populaire was the 16th most voted party (32,365 votes; 1.1.%), securing one representative.
