The flag of Erzin (photo) is white with the municipality's emblem . "Belediyesi" means " Municipality".
The emblem of the municipality features the ruins of the huge aqueduct built in the ancient town of Epiphania, the eastward extension of the town of Antioch.
Epiphania is mentioned by many ancient geographers, Ptolemy, Pliny, Stephanus Byzantius, etc. It was formerly called Oiniandos and afterwards Epiphania, after Antiochus IV Epiphanes, King of Syria (175-164 B.C.). Cicero once encamped there, and Pompey settled there some of the pirates he had subdued. There are remains of walls, a temple, an acropolis, an aqueduct, and many houses, all built in basalt.
[The Catholic Encyclopedia]
For at least some of his construction projects, Antiochus IV employed the Roman architect Cossutius, a man "of great skill and scientific attainments" (Vitruves writes) who was in charge of the Syrian king's work on the temple of Olympian Zeus at Athens [...] At Antioch, Cossutius' name has been found scratched twice in the cement wall of the channel of the aqueduct [...] The aqueduct was designed to tap the lively winter torrent Onopnictes ("Donkey-drowner") which flows down from the mountain through the city and into the Orontes; the water diverted by the aqueduct during the rainy season would have been brought to cisterns along the terraced slope of the mountain. Evidently this channel was constructed during the creation of Epiphania.
