The former municipal flag (photo) was white with the municipality's former emblem.
The emblem features three green hazelnuts.

Hazelnut is one of the most important nut crops in the world and has its origins in the center of Anatolia. Wild species are found in Anatolia which have provided the source for today's cultivated varieties.
Turkey is the first world hazelnut producer and exporter. In addition, it covers approximately 70% and 82% of the world`s production and export respectively. While Turkey's average in shell production is 350-400 000 t, this value has reached up to 500 000 t in recent years.

"Giresun Quality" hazelnuts are those round-shaped hazelnuts, which grow in Giresun and in certain districts of Trabzon. "Giresun Quality" hazelnuts are the world's highest-quality hazelnuts.
The Hazelnut Sales Cooperatives Union (Fiskobirlik; website) was established in July 1938 by five cooperatives, while the Giresun Hazelnut Exporters Union was established in November 1940. Fiskobirlik also uses an emblem made of three green hazelnuts.
