Flag used at sesquicentennial celebrations

[Former Flag of Appanoose County, Iowa] image by António Martins-Tuválkin, 9 December 2010

Once available as a black and white flag photograph at www.iowacounties.org the flag of Appanoose County is a very light (possibly white) ~3:5 cloth with two lines of text and a scattering of elements between then, all in apparently the same dark shade: The text is set in bold Cooper typeface capitals and reads "Appanoose County" along the top edge of the flag and "A world of growth" along the bottom; on the middle of the flag there's a disc surrounded by five smaller icons, evenly spaced: From noon and clockwise these are a flint spear head, a cart (or wagon) wheel, a mine rail car, a cog wheel, an a personal computer; the whole is flanked by two corn stalks. I suppose the elements around the disc symbolize technological progress in the area.

A color photo in the booklet [u9s03b] shows more detail (p.1, 3rd and 4th images of the 2nd row): The flag is indeed white with dark blue text. The disc resolves as a globe with blue seas (a shade lighter than the lettering) and green continents turned to show North America. The five smaller icons are all black and the two corn stalks are green.
