Flag used at sesquicentennial celebrations

[Former Flag of Van Buren County, Iowa] image by António Martins-Tuválkin, 15 November 2010

Back in 2002, the Iowa State Association of Counties website hosted an account of each county's history, signed by its County Recorder, and illustrated with a black and white flag image. It is not clear whether these flag images were provided by the county administration or not.

Archived copies of the pages about Van Buren Taylor are still at web.archive.org/web/*/www.iowacounties.org/County+Info/History+Pages/van%20Buren.htm and web.archive.org/web/*/www.iowacounties.org/County+Info/Flags/Van%20Buren.htm. It is a ~3:5 medium light flag with lettering reading "Van Buren" along the top and "County" at the lower fly in large black (?) serif capitals and "explore" slanted upwards on the middle fly, set in large white (?) serif capitals, heavily outlined in black (?). On the mid-lower hoist a large white (?) map of the county, also heavily outlined in black (?), showing only the course of Des Moines river and lettering identifying it, set on a descending line in sans serif bold capitals, both in black (?).

A slightly better image in the booklet [u9s03b] (photos 1st and 2nd of the 1st row of p. 13) shows that the lettering "Van Buren" is set in black sans serif capitals and that on the lower fly it says rather "the Villages", set in black serif letters in two centered lines. The flag is light blue with black elements, the map and the slanted text filled in yellow.
