Flag Competition

Dysart (ca. 1230 inhabitants representing c. 551 families; 3,264 sq. km) is located in Tama County, 80 statute miles (statute miles are "as the crow flies") from Des Moines. The township after Joseph Dysart (1820-1893), who came in 1855 and made actual settlement in 1863. In October 1872, he obtained the founding of a town named Dysard on the newly built railway line. The town was incorporated in 1881 for the sake of law and order. More detailed historical accounts are available: History of Dysert showcase.netins.net/web/dysart/history.htm and Hon. Joseph Dysert showcase.netins.net/web/dysart/hon.htm.

Dysart should have soon its flag, according to "The Times-Republican", 9 January 2007:
"The Dysart Development Corporation is sponsoring a project to design a flag for Dysart. Everyone in the area is invited to participate in a contest to design the flag. The design should represent the spirit of Dysart as a great place to live, work, play, go to school, volunteer, a "City on the Grow," a great place to call "Home." The DDC is offering an award of $100 to the contributor of the winning design. Entries are due by March 1.
[...]
Any person residing in the Dysart area is eligible to participate.
[...]
Entries will be judged on originality and how well the flag design portrays the spirit of Dysart. (Great artistic ability is not necessary, it's the concept that counts.)
[...]
Entries will be judged by a committee of community members selected by the DDC. The winning designs will become the property of the DDC."
