The City of Waukee flag and logo are trademarked and cannot be used without authority being granted by the Waukee City Council.

At the bottom of the web page at www.waukee.org/livehistory.html is described the 1973 contest that created a Waukee town emblem that is the basis of the current city logo, the key name design. The logo seems to be on every page of the city website on the right. It is then just to determine what background of the flag is.

Waukee adopts first new logo in 42 years
Nov. 18, 2015
The city officially retired its 42-year-old purple and gold key-themed logo and unveiled a new multi-colored emblem. The previous logo was first put into service in 1973 as the winning design in a city-sponsored contest. This time around, Waukee turned to Flynn Wright advertising agency to create a new brand approach.
“Extensive research showed us that Waukee was top-of-mind among metro area respondents, and that people viewed it as a thriving, clean, family-friendly community with great schools and amenities,” Waukee Mayor Bill Peard said in a news release. “Based on that research and stakeholder feedback, we set out to update our brand to reflect Waukee’s many assets and to position it uniquely in the marketplace.”
The new logo is an abstract composition that prominently displays a “W” against a grid of gradually intersecting lines. The logo is new, but a 12-person committee – made up of elected officials, community partners and city staff – chose to keep “The Key to Good Living” as the community’s motto. Surveys showed it still resonated with residents, according to the city.
“Our new logo represents the excitement of our thriving, growing community while the motto maintains the long-standing brand equity and community pride for Waukee,” Peard said. “We are greatly excited about the direction Waukee is headed.”
