No flag

The town of Jamestown has informed me that it does not have a flag.
Valentin Poposki, 20 February 2011

The town held a flag contest and adopted a new flag in August 2018. I received this email from Sarah Ulrich of the Jamestown Flag Committee stating the official proclamation regarding the flag. She also sent me a very big image of the flag (which I've shrunk and attached).

"It is the pleasure and privilege of the Jamestown Flag Committee to present the final proposal for the town flag of Jamestown. After much deliberation over several entries, the Committee (consisting of Representative John Capes, Natalie Teichman, Mary Dalton, and Sarah Ulrich) decided on one flag that best represents Jamestown using the guidelines of the contest.

This flag was designed by Brodie Loman. It features a blue background that represents strength and security in color psychology. The blue background is the foundation on which the rest of the flag is built. The green diamond represents schools. Green in psychology represents growth and knowledge seeking. The diamond is strong and unbreaking. The two white lines are meant to represent a railroad track. It symbolizes both the literal railroad built in 1856 that bisects Jamestown and the underground railroad in which Jamestown was a known stop before heading north. The four vertical lines represent not only railroad tracks, but are also a nod to the iconic four columns of the Jamestown Public Library building.

The committee would also like to mention that the diamond is a slight acknowledgment to the Ragsdale High School diamond, whether intentional or not. Additionally, the green color highlights the abundance of oak trees and other greenery that make Jamestown beautiful, especially in residential neighborhoods.

The Jamestown Flag Committee would look favorably upon the Town Council choosing to adopt this flag as designed by Brodie Loman. We believe it not only encapsulates the central features of Jamestown’s past, present, and future, but also will strengthen the sense of community and pride in our great town."
