Laurinburg, North Carolina, is located in Scotland County, in the southern part of the state. The city and the surrounding community are very proud of their Scots heritage - the county was settled by Scots who were transported to
North Carolina after the failed Jacobite Rising in Scotland in 1745. This Scottish heritage can be seen in the tartan border of the municipal web site, and also by the name of its major educational institution, St. Andrews Presbyterian College, named after the famous University of St. Andrews in Scotland. as well as in the name of the surrounding county. For many years there was also a women's coordinate college as well, Flora Macdonald College, named after the Scottish heroine who ferried the refugee Bonnie Prince Charlie 'o'er the sea to Skye' after the failure of his revolt, from whence he eventually escaped to France.
The municipal logo appears in full color, along with a dark blue representation on the wall of the Council Chamber, at
www.laurinburg.org/city_clerk.cfm.
The City Clerk's Office says that there is no official flag, but the colored version of the logo is often seen on a tartan field (presumably identical or similar to that which surrounds the web site) on unofficial banners 'which appear as if by magic' on unspecified special occasions.
