It is an unequal horizontal triband of light blue, white and purple, with a
large shield off set to the hoist and the city name in golden yellow on the rest
of the white stripe. The shield is divided horizontally by a wavy line (per fess
wavy), purple over light blue, with golden yellow inscriptions and symbols:
"1688" above a fleur-de-lis on the purple area and a star above "1899" on the
light blue area.

As seen on this page, the flag of
New Rochelle had its ordinance adopted on September 8, 1952. 1688 is the date
when New Rochelle was founded, while 1899 is the date of incorporation as a
city. The gold fleur-de-lis symbolizes the French origin of the Huguenots, who
first settled New Rochelle. The elements of the shield on the flag were taken
from the seal.

My drawing of this town's flag is based on a 2015 Bastille Day photo on the
town's website:
https://www.newrochelleny.com/PhotoGallery/8/IMG_2558.jpg. There are two
(and maybe 3) versions of the flag that differ in the text and shape of the
shield. This 2015 version has thicker numbers and a point at the end of the
shield.

At WorthPoint, there exists an archived eBay listing of a red, white, and
blue flag with the seal of New Rochelle. The flag also had three fleur-de-lis in
the white band, which possibly evoke the origin of the Huguenots. I am not
entirely sure of the status of this flag, or if it even is a former flag. There
always exists the possibility it is an anniversary flag, etc. It is known that
this flag was definitely not a modern creation, based on its appearance.

According to the document titled "Municipal Flags", New Rochelle used a
flag which was white with the seal centered. No date for this flag's adoption is
known, but it is certain that it was adopted before 1915, the date of
publication of the document. I am assuming this is the same seal as used today.
