Populis ad Littus is a Latin phrase translating "The People's
Beach" referencing the connection to the broader NYC community and Rockaway's
welcoming disposition to all, also tying back to NY State's flag's motto
"Excelsior" (Ever Upward).
The flag called “The People’s Beach’” was designed by Rockaway’s own Brent Gentile. It was a widely popular entry in the “Rockaway Flag” creative competition open to all where readers could participate via an online voting platform.
