I have an article stating the flag of Newbury Township in Geauga County was adopted on May 27, 1965. The colors red, white, and blue are for the national flag. The shape of the flag represents Ohio, and the red and white stripes represent the other fifteen townships in the county. The blue canton represents the sky and lakes. The five stars mean that Newbury was the fifth township settled in Geauga County and the gold star symbolizes Newbury.
The article goes on to say "Our orange and black N represents our responsibility to transmit wisdom and knowledge to each succeeding generation and our belief and support of universal education."
Orange shades the letter N as a background color, and I suspect that this color was included because the flag was designed by a fourth grade class of Newbury Grade School, under the direction of Mrs. Willard Blackington, their teacher. My guess is that orange and black may be the colors of the grade school.

Concerning the Newbury Township flag, yes, the school colors for Newbury School are orange and black. At the time the flag was designed, the school was one building and comprised kindergarten through 12th grade.
