1907 Proposals

Blue and green maps of the state of Oklahoma, located in the USA. The two flags were entered in a 1920s competition for a design for the Oklahoma State flag.

Of course 1907 is the year Oklahoma attained statehood. 1889 was the year part of the Indian territory was first opened to white settlement, which generated a massive land rush. The division on one of the maps seems to define the eastern domain of the Five Nations before white settlement, the so-called 'Civilized Tribes.' It appears to match the territory of the 'Five Nations', rather than the similar-but-not-identical-borders of the rump Indian territory established after the start of white settlement in the west and the founding of the Oklahoma territory there.
