Description of the flag

A red-white-blue tricolor, with a large yellow diamond overlain on it. In the diamond a black-line illustration of a plow. In the upper hoist the date 1752. In the lower fly the name Berks.
Jens Pattke, 16 April 2005

Berks County (373,628 inhabitants in 2002; seat, Reading) is located in southeastern Pennsylvania. Incorporated in 1752 from parts of Lancaster, Chester, and Philadelphia Counties, Berks gave up in 1772 territory for the formation of Northumberland County, and again in 1811, for the formation of Schuylkill County. Berks County was named for Berkshire, England, home of William Penn's family.

The county website, given as the source for the flag image, gives also the following details on the flag:
"The Berks County flag was designed in 1914 by Charles K. Snell of Reading and officially adopted in 1941 by the County Commissioners".

I found these photos on the county's Facebook page:

The diamond is shaped somewhat like the county, but there's standing grass, a wheat sheaf, and a plow.

According to this strange block on Etsy from 1996, symbolism on the county flag of Berks, Pennsylvania is given as red, white, and blue being suggestive of the patriotic American spirit of the people of the county. The plow and sheaf on the golden map of the county indicate it as a rich agricultural district. Yellow and black also represent the German Empire (which I assume is where many settlers come from), and the Old English characters represent the early English settlers.
