Grayson County is in southwestern Virginia along the North Carolina border. The county seat is the town of Independence, and the county
contains Mount Rogers, the tallest peak in the Commonwealth (5,729 ft). The county was formed in 1793 and named after William Grayson, a
Virginia delegate to the Continental Congress and one of Virginia's first two Senators.
The flag of Grayson County can be seen in photographs of the 2015 and 2016 Virginia Association of Counties annual conferences. The flag
features the county seal centered on a blue field. The circular seal displays a white map of the county above a jumping deer and below the
year "1793" in black characters, all on a light blue disc. The deer in the seal is jumping over a banner bearing the words "PROTECTOR OF
NATURE." The light blue disc is surrounded by a white ring bearing the words "GRAYSON COUNTY" and "VIRGINIA" in black, capital letters.
