Municipal flags in Orange County:

Orange is one of the oldest counties in Virginia, and was originally named for William of Orange, who was king of Great Britain at the time of the county's founding. I've seen the flag of Orange County flying in at least two locations: near Montpelier, the home of James Madison; and in front of the Orange County courthouse. The flag features the county seal on an off-white background.

I have cleaned up and sharpened the county seal in the center of the flag. I have also modified the field color to pure white after discussions with officials at the Orange County administrative offices. According to their information, some of the county flags that were purchased in the late 1990s became discolored when left in the sun and weather too long, the field color changing from pure white to off-white. The problem was corrected by purchasing future flags from a different manufacturer. Hence, the flags I saw in September 2000 had the wrong field color.

A different flag seems to be in use behind councillors at www.townoforangeva.org/government/. It
appears to be similar to the flag of Greene County, but with an orange seal, rather than green.
