Alpha Tau Omega

Alpha Tau Omega dates to 1865, when it was founded at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. The flag is basically a banner of the fraternity's coat of arms, rotated 90 degrees: three horizontal stripes of gold, blue, and gold, with a vertical blue stripe in the hoist bearing three gold stars. (The arms are "or a pale and on a chief azure three mullets of the field.") The colors of the fraternity are officially sky blue and gold, but representations of the arms always show the azure as dark blue, so I have followed suit for the flag.

According to www.unk.edu/studentlife/organizations.aspx?id=11632, the ATO Flag was designed by William C. Smiley and approved in 1914.

The basic design of the flag is a banner of arms. The coat of arms was designed in 1910, the blazon is described as "Or, a pale and chief conjoined azure, in chief three mullets of the first. Crest: A tower masoned or, bearing a crosslet pattee sable. Motto: "Pi Epsilon Pi"" (source: www.atozetachi.com/symbols.htm). The flag, while shown vertical at the website of the Zeta Chi Chapter (University of Louisiana), it is always shown horizontal in what I have seen. According to the Alpha Tau Omega website, the ATO Flag was designed by William C. Smiley and approved in 1914 (www.ato.org/AlphaTauOmega/atohistory/factsandfirsts.aspx and click symbols). The colors of the flag, just like the arms, are azure and gold, the two colors of ATO.

The ratio of the ATO flag is 3:4 and the center stripes are a ratio of 1:1:1. The exact size of the stars is not determined, but from the flag that I have and from what I seen, they tend to be large and point upwards.

White flag with seal

At feeds2.yourstorewizards.com/2647/images/full/new-alpha-tau-omega-flag-113.jpg is an image of an Alpha Tau Omega flag with the seal on a white flag. I have seen this flag at Arkansas Tech (but without the Gamma Xi Chapter text on the bottom).

This flag is unofficial but can still be used by chapters and brothers.
