Description of the Flag

The New York Racing Association (NYRA) is a non-profit organization that owns and operates the three largest thoroughbred horse racing tracks in the state of New York - Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, Belmont Park on Long Island, and Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs. The organization was created in 1958 as the successor to the Greater New York Association. The NYRA hosts the Breeders' Cup and sponsors a Triple Crown for fillies known as the Triple Tiara.

On 8 July 2017 at the Breeders' Cup, the NYRA introduced a new logo, which also takes center stage on the organization's flag, seen repeatedly during the television coverage of the races. The flag features the NYRA logo centered on a white field. The logo itself is in the shape of a dark blue shield with a red border. Within the shield is a thoroughbred horse's head in full stride, white bridled red, with a white partial stripe below the head, and the white capital sans serif letters "NYRA" above.

The previous flag of the NYRA also featured the contemporary logo centered on a white field, and could be seen in television footage of last year's Breeders' Cup shown during Saturday's telecast. The logo prior to 8 July 2017 showed the black silhouette of a jockey and horse in full stride. Below the silhouette was a silver or grey oval representing a horse-racing track, with the capital letters "NY" in silver or grey, "R" in black, and "A" in red, contained within the track outline.
