The flag of the Araure Municipality of the Venezuelan State of
Portuguesa - Attributes and Semiology:
Is a rectangular field with ratio 3:5. Consists of a horizontal
superior stripe enameled on Sky-blue which occupies the 4/6 parts
of the field and six alternating fringes that complete the
remaining 2/6 parts: three white and three sky-blue. A yellow sun
with sixteen (16) right and alternating rays of different
longitude are born of the superior white fringe and occupies the
lateral or section near to the staff while in the flight or
opposed section appears a seven pointed white star. The Sky-blue
represents on one hand the clear Araurenian sky, a part of the
firmament created by the Almighty God under which the inhabitants
of the region have built their history proudly and for the other
one, the waters of the Araure Gulch: millennial bed gone back by
the untamable Boraure Indians in whose banks settled the first
Hispanic communities that gave origin to the current city of
Araure. The white and blue fringes represent the fertile ground
furrows, guarantee of the last work and the residents' present
that occupy the plain and the Araurenian mountain foot. The sun
remembers the same that constitutes timmer of honor on the
Portuguesa State Coat of Arms with identical meaning: the freedom
shining on the fertile plains of the region and the heroic memory
of the Battle of Araure, that had place on the Municipality
jurisdiction in December 5th, 1813 under the personal and
protagonic conduction of El Libertador Simon Bolivar. The seven
pointed white start reminds the same which constituted the jewel
of the Order of the Liberators of Venezuela Badge and is a
reminiscence of those that the national heroes showed in their
uniforms whose had origin in the illustrious genius of the Father
of the Homeland. It represents the highest ideals that should
always inspire the action of the Araurenian people for the free
and independent construction of its future. Their color
symbolizes the purity and honesty that it should characterize the
right behavior of the sons and residents in this floor anointed
by the Coat of Arms of the Republic.
Historical synthesis: The Flag of the Araure Municipalit,
creation of the Chronicler of the City, Mr. Wilfredo Bolivar and
adopted as official banner according to the decree dated on
December 5th, 1999, signed by the Mayor of Araure, Armando
Rodriguez, was hoisted on the first time in the Commemorative
Monument for the Battle of Araure in the same day of the
celebration of the 186th anniversary of this glorious ephemeris
of the National Emancipation War.
