- Rank Flags of the Chilean Navy:

Also, as in other Chilean flags with stars, there does not seem to be any detailed prescription regarding the sizes and the exact poitions of the stars, so I have followed the drawings in Album 2000 [pay00] (that, as a rule, follows the Flaggenbuch 1939 [neu39]). I believe that the eventual error introduced so could not be that great.

The Album 2000 [pay00] shows a 2:3 blue flag with a white star in each corner. Already shown in Flaggenbuch [neu39] as "Flagge des Generaldirectors der Marine" (Flag of the General Director of the Navy).

Željko Heimer, 14 December 2005
The Album 2000 [pay00] shows a 2:3 blue flag with three white stars in triangle. Already shown in Flaggenbuch [neu39]. A note in Album says the flag is also used by the Chief of Joint Staff or Navy Staff.

At least during World War II, the flag of a vice admiral was different if he was commanding than if he wasn't (red instead of blue), ie. the same principle as with rear admiral. (Source: Jane's Fighting Ships of World War II [jfs98])
Marcus Wendel, 5 September 1999
This confirmed neither by Flaggenbuch [neu39] nor by Album [pay00]. We can guess it was only used during the Second World War.

The Album 2000 [pay00] shows a 2:3 blue flag with two white stars placed vertically in the middle of the flag. Already shown in Flaggenbuch [neu39], with the same allocation, and also "als Chef des Stabes in Ministerium" (as Chief of Staff in Ministry). If the Ministry of Navy was suppressed, that allocation automatically disappeared, too.

In Album 2000 [pay00], a note to Rear Admiral says: "with red field, not in command." Already shown in Flaggenbuch [neu39].

Album des pavillons nationaux et des marques distinctives des marines de guerre et de commerce (1889) shows the Chilean ensign and jack as we know them, an health pennant similar to the Health Commissioner's pennant hitherto known only from Flaggenbuch 1925, and:
