Shield Gules, two lions passant guardant Or armed Azure. A sinister canton Argent is charged with an initial Gules "W".
Meaning:
The arms display the two lions of the Counts of Diez, who ruled the area until 1388, combined with the initial of the town. They are based on the 15th century seals of the city. The arms, however, were "forgotten" in later centuries and in the early 19th century the new seal of the municipality displayed a rather strange building with two towers. The building, a "Wehrbau" (a fortified building) was a canting element. In the end of the 19th century the building was displayed in the colours of Diez by Otto Hupp. Those arms were used, but never approved.
The current arms were approved in 1953.
