Renaissance shield parted per fess of Gules and Azure, charged with a halberd Argent and a sword Argent in saltire.
Meaning:
King Friedrich III granted the rights of a market town in 1485, which remained however defunct. The rights were transferred to nearby Wiggensbach in 1684. The basic tinctures are those of the Princely Abbey of Kempten, the former local ruler. Halberd and sword are reminding on the only battle in the Allgäu between 1268 and 1517. In March 1460 the militia of Gerwig of Sulmentingen, Abbot of Kempten, was defeated by troops of the Swiss Confederation, commanded by Captain Eberli and the rule of that abbot ended. The St.George's Chapel alongside the road to Wengen was built in 1461 as a remembrance.
