Presentation of Villaverde de Medina

The municipality of Villaverde de Medina (553 inhabitants in 2009; 5,820 ha) is located in the south of Valladolid Province, 50 km from Valladolid.

Villaverde was named for its green (verde) gardens and pastures. While there is no written documentation on the village before the 16th century, then a parish depending on the abbey of Medina del Campo, the settlement is much older. Roman remains have been found in Las Pilas and La Romilla. The today's village was formed by the inhabitants of the three abandoned villages of Romaguitardo, Dueñas and Carrioncillo (today, the Carrión chapel).

Symbols of Villaverde de Medina

The flag and arms of Villaverde de Medina are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 30 April 2003 by the Municipal Council, signed on 16 June 2003 by the Mayor, and published on 26 June 2003 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 122, pp. 9,347-9,348 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Coat of arms: Vert a cross argent cantonned 1. and 4. with a tower or masoned sable 2. and 3. with a grapevine leaf or. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.

The flag is, therefore, a banner of the municipal arms.
