Maasterras polderboard

[Maasterras polderboard] by Jarig Bakker, 18 May 2004
adopted 25 Sep 1986; design: Hans van Heyningen

Official name: Waterschap het Maasterras; seat: Bergen, Limburg province.
adopted 25 Sep 1986; design: Hans van Heyningen
Flagdescription: Two horizontal stripes connected by an at least 4x waved dividing line; over all a fork over 1/3 flaglength with arms with thickness of 1/5 flagheight, blue on yellow and white on black.
The flag is a simplification of the coat of arms with a slight modification of the total image.
1. The wheels and the castle have been left out.
2. The fork has been turned 90 degrees; the fork on the arms symbolizes the Maas river, which receives tributaries. The flowing-direction of the fork is from the slanting branches towards the vertical main branch in chief of the coat of arms - an arbitrary choice by the designer, Mr. Bontekoe. In the flag the flow-direction is "with the wind"- from hoist to fly.
To indicate that the fork represents a river the dividing line has been made wavy; the waves are within straight lines to indicate the canalization of the streams.
