Van Ommeren old flag

[Van Ommeren old flag] image by Jarig Bakker, 15 Oct 2003

N.V.Phs. van Ommeren. The flag of this company, which dates from 1839, had the ring and the "V" as black. In 1987 there was a merger with Celco International B.V. to produce van Ommeren-Celco B.V. which in 1989 became Koninklijke van Ommeren-Celco N.V. and then in 1994 there was another change to Royal Van Ommeren N.V. and yet again in 1997 to Van Ommeren Agencies Rotterdam B.V. Along the way it seems the ring and the "V" have changed to green. Sources have varied as to whether then bands were equal and also the shade of green and I have been guided by the 2 versions in the Josef  Nüsse's site which show both the black and the green emblem versions as existing, the bands to be equal and the green of a dark shade.

van Ommeren "jack"?

[van Ommeren jack flag] image by Jarig Bakker, 1 Jan 2005

There is a version or variant I cannot identify appeared on Marktplaats (Dutch auction site) a few years ago.  Accessed on 11 Sep 2006, it was offer no. 5066614513 put up by “skipflag”: A rather small flag, with dimensions given as 40 [cm] x 60 [cm], it bears the black Van Ommeren logo on a white diamond in the centre of a field filled with six green and six white rays (the upper central one white) alternately; the invisible diamond makes its presence known by jutting into the horizontal green rays.
Strictly speaking this item may not have been Dutch at all (at least formally).  Or was it?  Does anyone know this one?

Vopak

[Vopak houseflag] image by Jarig Bakker, 4 Nov 2003

From this webpage, spotted by Dov Gutterman:: Vopak = Van Ommeren - Pakhoed, now based in Rotterdam. Van Ommeren is a shipping company with a good deal of interest in oil. Pakhoed was an Amsterdam company, specialized in storage, and starting as "Blauwhoed", a company which started for the Vereneenigde Oostindische Compagnie in 1616.
The emblem of Blauwhoed was a Stetson - either blue or white with a blue band; the emblem of Pakhoed was a white Stetson with a red band. (there were several "veems" (mediaeval storage companies) with different emblems). The emblem of Van Ommeren was its houseflag/funnel with the V in a ring. On the Vopak flag the Stetson dominates, flanked by a darkgreen "gamma"-like symbol. The field is white, and below the company logo are black letters Vopak.

Pakhuismeesteren

[Pakhuismeesteren houseflag] image by Eugene Ipavec, 15 Nov 2007

Above word, outmoded Dutch meaning “warehouse masters”, points to an episode of Vopak’s history.
Vopak history page, English version: “1818 - Pakhuismeesteren established in 1818 in Rotterdam. Specialized mainly in the loading, unloading and storage of products from the Dutch colonies, such as tea, coffee, spices. Later started to offer storage facilities for oil and oil products, initially in barrels, but as of 1888 also in bulk tanks.
1967 - Pakhoed created through the merger of Pakhuismeesteren and Blauwhoed. Main activities: port activities, stevedoring, shipping agencies, freight forwarding, warehousing, oil and chemical storage.”
Page concerning de Monchy, an important family active in Pakhuismeesteren (in Dutch):

The houseflag-image was found in “Flaggen auf dem Rhein” (1952 ed.), showing the former house flag: broad ascending diagonal stripe, white, between red and blue triangles (national colours); in the central stripe, black initials ‘PHM’ (no serifs) placed in the sense of the stripe i.e. not parallel to the flag’s horizontal edges.  Ratio red-white-blue (hoist): 1:4:0; same (fly): 0:4:1.

Van Es & Van Ommeren

[Van Es & Van Ommeren] image by Jarig Bakker, 10 Nov 2003 after image sent by Neale Rosanoski, 9 Nov 2003

N.V. P.A. van Es & Co. Became part of the van Ommeren group and in 1961 adopted a version of their flag with 6 horizontal bands of green and white, and an undefined white diamond bearing a black ring enclosing the black stylised logo "VE".
Neale Rosanoski, 9 Nov 2003

Five equally wide horizonta; stripes of green and white; in the center a white diamond charged with black circle, within which two stylized letter VE. - it surely shows the Van Ommeren connection.
