It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain green background (village rank).

he arms are Argent on a fess Azure wavy a fess Argent wavy and in chief two horse heads respectant Proper and in chief a jar Gules between two billets Vert offset to the core. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "FREGUESIA DA GOLEGÃ"
Meaning:
The fess wavy refers to the local river Almonda - just likeon the arms of the synonimous municipality and of the other commune, Azinhaga - (q.v.), and the horse heads to the town's fame of Portugal's horse capital.

Golegã Commune is one of the three communes of the synonimous municipality (q.v.). It had 3893 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 38,45 km².
