Southern Shores is a coastal town in North Carolina's Dare County. Located in the Outer Banks, Southern Shores falls between the towns of Duck to the north and Kitty Hawk to the south. As of 2000, the town had a population of about 2,200. (www.southernshores.org/)
The flag of Southern Shores can be seen flying, along with the American and North Carolina flags, in front of the Town Hall. The flag consists of the town seal centered on a white field. The seal itself is circular and divided roughly
quarterly with a large white seagull superimposed. Showing from behind the seagull, the first quarter of the seal is plain blue with the top half of a tan-colored spray of beach grass. The second quarter shows a tan-colored sand dune with a white dogwood flower and a green pine tree rising from the dune; dark blue water and light blue sky can be seen behind the dune. The third quarter is tan-colored for a sandy beach with light blue water, a white conch shell, and the green lower half of the beach grass from the first quarter. The fourth quarter is plain dark blue, mirroring the first quarter. Around the
outside of the seal are the words in blue capital letters "TOWN OF SOUTHERN SHORES" and "NORTH CAROLINA 1979."
