Henry County is located in southern central Virginia along the North Carolina border. The county was founded in 1777 as Patrick Henry County. In 1790, the county was split, with the western half becoming Patrick County and the eastern half Henry County. The county seat is officially recorded as the city of Martinsville, but the county administration buildings and courthouse are actually located in the town of Collinsville.

The flag of Henry County can be seen in photographs online of the 2016 annual conference of the Virginia Association of Counties (VACo). The flag shows the Henry County seal centered on a white field. The seal shows on a yellow disc an outline of the county, superimposed with a silhouette of a church, a factory, and a schoolhouse, with the inscriptions "CHURCH," "INDUSTRY," and "EDUCATION" in small, black capital letters. The yellow disc is surrounded by a dark red ring bearing the words "HENRY" and "COUNTY" in large, black capital letters, separated by two yellow ears of wheat.
