Moldavian ASSR, 1924-1925 (flag projects)

[A] moldavian flag [project] of 1924 is «ukrainian flag with added inscriptions».
Victor Lomantsov, 21 Dec 2001

The project of that flag must be adopted by Ukrainian Committee, but it was not adopted. Several projects existed in 1924-1925, official description of the state flag was adopted only in 1925.
Victor Lomantsov, 22 Jul 2005

Moldavian ASSR, 1925-1929

Unfortunately I have no image of Moldavian ASSR flag of 1925. The flag was red with hammer-and-sickle and abbreviation "RASSM". No more info.
Victor Lomantsov, 22 Jul 2005

The inscription should probably read "РАСС Молдовеняскэ".
Marco Pribilla, 17 Dec 2002

According to Banderas [ban] 36: 12, Moldova ASSR was created 12 October 1924 in the Ukrainian zone of Balta. The flag was adopted probably in 1925.
Jaume Ollé, 16 Jan 1997 and 15 Dec 2002

In the Moldavian (A)SSR the Cyrillic script for Romanian (“Moldavian”) was introduced in December 1924. The republic reverted to standard Latin Romanian script for the period of 1932-38 but after this Cyrillic letters were again used until 1989.
Marco Pribilla, 17 Dec 2002

Incorrect depiction in Banderas

According to Banderas [ban] 36: 12, this flag was in use until 1929 when the hammer and sickle disappear. The article is not signed; I suppose that the authors, or source, is either Grechilo or Sokolov, who were regular contributers at the time.
Jaume Ollé, 15 Dec 2002

I must say that this flag is very doubtful.
Victor Lomantsov, Dec 2002

Mistake #1: language and script

The form "RSS Moldovenesht’" is transcribed from Cyrillic script ("РСС Молдовенешть") is a genetive and doesn’t make any sence what so ever on a flag: The inscription should probably read [nominative] "RASS Moldovenească", most likely in Cyrillic orthography: "РАСС Молдовеняскэ".
Marco Pribilla, 17 Dec 2002

Mistake #2: acronym

Ukrainian SSR abbreviation "УРСР" appeared only in the 1930-ies. Previously, only "УСРР" and "УССР" were used.
Victor Lomantsov, 14 Dec 2002

Mistake #3: design and dates

How could Moldavian ASSR use in 1925 as basis for its own flag the Ukrainian SSR flag of 1937?
Antonio Gutiérrez, 28 Mar 2004

Moldavian ASSR, 1929-1935

According to Banderas [ban] 36: 12, in 1929 when the hammer and sickle disappear from the previous flag.
Jaume Ollé, 16 Jan 1997

Moldavian ASSR, 1935-1937

According to Banderas [ban] 36: 12, "RSSU" was suppressed from the previous flag near 1935.
Jaume Ollé, 16 Jan 1997 and 15 Dec 2002

According to Banderas [ban] 36: 12, the hammer and sickle was added (above of "YPCP") in 1937.
Jaume Ollé, 16 Jan 1997 and 15 Dec 2002

Moldavian ASSR flag with with latin letters existed for a short period in 1938, from January (when Constitution was approved) to February (when cyrillic script was again introducted).

Red with in the upper hoist curved yellow cyrillic initials (RSSM) in serif. Yellow hammer and sickle below.
Mark Sensen, 02 Jun 1996

This flag was introduced by Constitution of 1941, article 123. The official text of Constitution regulated neither the typeface of the letters nor the curved form of the inscription.
Victor Lomantsov, 21 Dec 2001

This flag was replaced by a new one in 31 January 1952.
Željko Heimer, 17 Apr 1996
